I Am Wolphin

If you’ve ever been to Ocean Adventure World, up-mountain from the City of Refuge on the Big Island of Hawaii, then you probably know who I am. You probably stood over my tank and stared down at me, giggling with your friends about my hulking, lumpen body and the strange story of how I came to be. So I’ll just go ahead and answer the questions I know you’re whispering:

Yes, I was born this way. With the hump on my forehead. And the bulldog nose.

Yes, my mother is Dolphinia, Queen of the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins.

Yes, my father is an Orca, a “killer whale,” as you Leggs say. That’s why they call me Wolphin—half-whale, half-dolphin. The only one in captivity.
